 The Founders of the Bienal de Arte de Cerveira have finally realized their dream, 24 years after the opening of the first Art Biennial: the Creation of the Museum of Contemporary Art, which shelters Vila Nova de Cerveira's Art history. This Museum owes it’s existence to the determination of the Town Hall Council, the generosity of the visiting artists, and to the works of Art accumulated through prizes, donations and the Biennial workshops.
To the Organisation and to all those who contributed to the founding of the Museu da Bienal de Cerveira, our profound gratitude.

 When the International Bienal de Arte de Vila Nova de Cerveira started it’s first cultural adventure in 1978, very few believed that 24 years later, as a result of it’s successive editions, which in the meantime consolidated it, could achieve the dimensions that it has achieved till now. It is this very impact that motivated the idea of the founding of a Contemporary Art Museum. This goes to prove that, when a man determined to reach his objective, he succeeds.
The creation of this Museum, which shelters the Biennial works of Art, is a witness to the works, the creations and the hard work of numerous artists. In my opinion, it is a tribute and a celebration to Art and to the Artistic Movement which enshrines this small municipality like a fortress, and an example of what Culture too can achieve, besides the National and International Art Centres.
We decipher this new cultural equipment as a dynamic and open space, a route to even more ambitious Projects, which would complement and qualify the cultural and artistic offer from the Vila das Artes: O Centro D’Artes (The Art Centre), the Artists’ Workshops and the artistic formation, are the objectives that we hope to develop in the coming years and forms a fundamental part of the Biennial’s future.
